Special Events

Fundraising, awareness events and other types of revenue-increasing projects are held year-round. The largest annual fundraising event is the Gift of Life Gala, which honors special individuals who have been instrumental in creating a greater awareness and understanding to kidney and related diseases and organ donation. Their commitment and dedication to the field is recognized with the "Gift of Life" award. Past recipients include Secretary of State Jesse White, news anchor and film producer Bill Kurtis, Baxter and Abbott.

Other events include the Gift of Life Walk and Family Health Fair and the Middle Market Open Golf Tournament.

One fundraising program that has been especially successful is the Kidney Cars Program . The NKFI participates in this national program by providing a towing service to individuals who want to donate their unwanted vehicles, including cars, boats, buses or motorcycles. In return, they may be eligible for a tax deduction.
