Published March 6, 2023 at 4:02 PM CST

The Illinois Public Health Association and local partners will offer screenings and more on Thursday, March 9

World Kidney Day is this Thursday (March 9) - and it's a day aimed at raising awareness for kidney health, and working to prevent kidney disease.

Lynden Schuyler is a community outreach consultant with the Illinois Public Health Association. She calls kidney disease a silent killer - and says it typically comes with other conditions.

"Too often, kidney disease, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure - we don't even know we have them until they are at very critical levels."

This World Kidney Day, the Illinois Public Health Association is teaming up with Union County Hospital and Southern Seven Health Department to offer free screenings - cholesterol, A-1-C, and glucose - on Thursday from 7am-10am.

Appointments are necessary - call 618-833-4511 extension 4297.

In addition, the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois is hosting free kidney health risk assessments, a health fair, and more at Shawnee Community College's Anna Extension Center from Noon-5pm on Thursday.
